22 November 2024, Kingston

One of the Thames Councilors, James Manthel, co-initiated Mayors for a drinkable Thames and convened the first gathering on the beautiful Thames Venturer riverboat, in Kingston Upon Thames last Friday 22 November 2024.

Inspired by the Thames River Walk (Fall 2023) and the Meuse mayor’s network, James Manthel prepared a regional gathering with 6 Thames mayors, 8 councillors, portfolio holders, and local environmental and river user groups like Thames Landscape Strategy, Water Rangers, South East River Trust; Leander Sea Scouts and Albany Outdoors, and RUGs (River User Group). From Runnymede to Hounslow there are 100s of river users groups.  RUGs have committed to engage these user groups and make them aware of their mayors committed to visiting their centres and supporting the citizen science testing in their stretch of the river Thames.

Importantly we encourage all data to be uploaded on the Water Rangers platform, to allow our user groups to make more informed decisions.

Hannah Bottomley, education manager “The River Thames Boat Project  team members in attendance found the meeting incredibly insightful and productive, and we hope to be able to report on the progress of the group as we play host for future meetings.”
