Meuse Walk 2018
Source-to-Sea Walk along the river Meuse
From 15th of May to 15th of July, I walked 1061km along the river Meuse from the source on plateau Langres in France to the Northsea. During these sixty days, 500+ people joined my walk. Every day, a total of 500+ children and locals have participated in the source-to-sea citizen science to monitor water quality. Every night, local families hosted me: small and large farmers, teachers, sluis workers and mayors. Deep gratitude to the hundreds of people who have supported the walk who are my Meuse Angels.
Witnessing how only three years later this river was not drinkable as a result of our choices of ‘economic developments’, underlined the vulnerability of the health of living systems and the need for us to care.

River Data
World’s first civil science of water quality of an entire river
With World Water Day 2019, Drinkable Rivers is happy to announce to be world’s first people-led research of water quality of an entire river and to share her findings. Last summer Li An Phoa executed this baseline study during her 60-day 1061 kilometer walk along the river Meuse. Together with 500 local people, Li An collected the data from the source in France to the North Sea in the Netherlands.
